VEX IQ Squad
Age Group: Grades 4-8 (Typically ages 8-14)
VEX IQ Challenge is a snap-together robotics system designed to introduce elementary and middle school students to STEM concepts. Students build robots using plastic pieces that snap together without tools, then code them using a visual block-based environment (or Python for advanced learners). Each year, teams collaborate in a teamwork challenge that pairs two teams together to maximize their score.
What VEX IQ Involves:
- Snap-Together Build System: No tools required. Pieces snap together easily, making iteration and prototyping fast and frustration-free.
- Block & Python Coding: Start with VEXcode Blocks (drag-and-drop) and graduate to Python when you're ready.
- Teamwork Challenge: Unique format where alliances of two teams work together to score points — emphasizing collaboration over pure competition.
- Engineering Notebook: Document your design process, iterations, and strategy — just like real engineers do.
Mentorship for VEX IQ
Our VEX IQ squad gets hands-on guidance from our VEX V5 and FTC veterans. Older students help with:
- Learning block coding and moving to Python
- Sensor integration and autonomous programming
- Strategy and alliance coordination
- Engineering notebook documentation
Why Join the VEX IQ Squad?
- Build robots without tools — snap, click, done.
- Learn to code with drag-and-drop blocks or Python.
- Compete in an exciting alliance-based format.
- Work alongside older students who mentor and inspire.
- Perfect stepping stone to VEX V5 and FTC.
